First Lady Melania Trump may not be as vocal as her husband Donald Trump, but she continues to make efforts to reach out in the response to the coronavirus. Recently, the First Lady spoke on the phone with Germany’s First Lady Elke Budenbender.
The Hill reports that the two First Ladies talked about their respective countries’ responses to the coronavirus. They also discussed the disinformation that was evident throughout this time as the world struggles to contain and stop the spread of the coronavirus. The White House released a statement on what the two First Ladies discussed over the phone. “The two women noted shared concern over some of the disinformation that has emerged, and committed to encouraging Americans and Germans to be cautious.”
Melania also told Budenbender that the United States will stand with Germany and the rest of Europe throughout this time of crisis.
The First Lady has constantly become more vocal about the need to follow physical distancing guidelines as per the advice of the CDC. She has sent video announcements to the public regarding the steps needed to be taken for everyone to combat the virus. Trump has also shared a photo of herself in a face mask on social media, stressing the need to wear protective face coverings when in public places.
The United States is the worst-hit country by the pandemic. As of now, there are over 500,000 cases and over 20,000 deaths, with officials already predicting that the count would only go up as the coronavirus peaks over the coming weeks.
Previously, the Easter weekend was disrupted by the pandemic and forced many families to spend the time indoors. This also resulted in the cancellation of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll this year, but there was one other Easter tradition that Melania continued, which was a reading of an Easter book that she did online instead. But the First Lady also took the time to wish everyone a Happy Easter on social media. In her message, she remembered the thousands who died from the coronavirus.
“On the eve of #Easter, let us remember the ones who lost their lives to COVID19. Please try to connect w/ family, friends, & loved ones this year. Take care of yourselves, keep your spirits high. Enjoy #Easter knowing that we are all in this together,” tweeted Melania.
