United States president Donald Trump opens this week by admonishing British ambassador to the U.S. Sir Kim Darroch who apparently described him as “clumsy and inept." Trump also made sure to remind the world that he does not agree with some major issues with British prime minister Theresa May.
Trump vs. British diplomat: ‘We will no longer deal with him’
The U.S. and the United Kingdom are known for having one of the closest ties in the international community for many years now. But some things might change after several memos were leaked on Sunday where Trump was described in a series of unflattering words.
Trump took to Twitter to respond to the leaked documents, apparently declaring that Washington, DC will no longer communicate with the diplomat. He added that he does not personally know Darroch but heard that he is not liked in the U.S.
In the same Twitter thread, Trump reiterated he does not agree with the outgoing British prime minister over the way she handled Brexit saying she has created a “mess.” Trump also seemingly implied that he enjoyed his recent state visit to the U.K. last month mostly because of Queen Elizabeth II and less because of the prime minister’s presence. Meanwhile, a spokesperson of May confirmed they have already been in contact with the White House.
The leaked memos and the scathing comments on Trump
Mail on Sunday reports seeing memos that Darroch reportedly sent via secret cables and briefing notes describing White House under Trump as “uniquely dysfunctional.” The top British diplomat purportedly had insiders that could confirm there have been internal disagreements in the White House describing it as “knife fights.” One of the documents reportedly reads, “We don't really believe this Administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.”
Darroch has also reportedly raised concerns over Trump’s relationship with Russia and the possibility that the American president might still order an attack on Iran in the future. The British ambassador has also commented on Trump’s economic policies noting that it could cause serious repercussions to the worldwide trade.
