So, are you happy or unhappy with the election results? Surprised or not with the results? How long did you watch? E-mail me.
As for watching the returns, I watched at home with my husband. The women will be happy to know that I got command of the remote control from my husband for 20 minutes last night. (He ran out to get us Chinese food. Upon his return I immediately relinquished custody.) It is the only part of our relationship which does not feel equal. (I know, all the men reading this are pointing out that he went to get the Chinese food. And yes, that was very nice.)
I assume most cable news programming today will be reviewing and analyzing the vote from yesterday, so in all likelihood we won’t do politics tonight at 10 p.m. on our show. As you know, we are last in prime and when we program the show we have to take into account the shows that have aired before us. My guess — at least right now — is that you will have had enough politics by 10 p.m. Of course, if there is some major political story that develops today our programming plans will change. Yes, that is cable news.
Here is one race you may have forgotten: the Durham DA Mike Nifong prosecuting the three Duke Lacrosse players won his race. See the AP article below:
AP-NC-TopRaces-Glance-Sum,0164
(AP) 11-07-06 22:17
District Attorney, Durham District Attorney
58 of 58 precincts – 100 percent
Mike Nifong, Dem (i) 26,116 – 49 percent
Lewis Cheek, Una 20,875 – 39 percent
Steve Monks-WI, GOP 6,193 – 12 percent
What is particularly interesting about the DA race results is that Steve Monks was a write-in candidate and got 12 percent.
Last week — as regular watchers of our show and readers of this blog know — we were on the set of the FOX hit series “24” for more than an hour. We showed some of the video from our visit last week on “On the Record” but we have much more to show. We are posting that unseen video on the blog today. Click and watch. I hope you enjoy it.
Now for some e-mails:

Dear Greta,
I went out in the rain today and voted. I did not have to stand in line. It’s really been raining hard all day long and I bet a lot of people will not vote for that reason. But what really bugged me is I asked my neighbors if they voted today and they replied no and that they were not even registered to vote, but they are always complaining about the government and the way this country is being ruled by. I know there are a lot of people in this great USA out there that are like them. If they don’t vote, they shouldn’t complain about it until they register and vote and then speak their voice.
I love your show, Greta. I wish I was with you when you were filming “24.” Thanks for airing that program. “24” is my favorite show besides yours of course.
I know you are glad to be back home!
Sincerely,
Elleen Chapman

Hello,
I voted today and I was undecided on the McCaskill/Talent race up until the minute I voted. I voted on a touch screen machine. I literally skipped past the McCaskill/Talent section and voted for the other items on the page. I then stood there and stared at the screen unable to determine who I supported. They both ran such negative campaigns. All they told me was what was wrong with the other. I’m still not sure where each candidate stands on the issues that matter to me. I was so disgusted by the two, I thought about not voting for either one. But I did cast my vote. I felt like I was voting for the one who I thought was the best of the worst.
I will be glad when 7 p.m. comes around. Then the negative TV ads will end. My phone will stop ringing with campaign calls. (By the way, it burns me that campaign calls are excluded from the No Call List). My mail will be lighter. I had 10 campaign fliers arrive yesterday. This campaign cycle will be over and we will have to wait until the next big election. Hopefully the politicians will learn that we don’t want them to tell us what is wrong with the other person, we want to know where they stand and what they will try to do for us!!
Thank you.

P.S. With your crazy schedule, when do you get time to spend with your husband?

I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the people of NC have lost their frickin’ minds and elected Mike Nifong into office. Something I saw on the local news might interest you.
ABC11 TV crew was at the polling place where Nifong was, when Mr. Harris from DUKE showed up to vote. And they got into it. Nifong walked over to his car and was like, “Hey good buddy.” Harris nicely told him to get the hell away from him and Nifong was like, “I don’t understand. What’s wrong buddy?” trying to shake his hand and Harris again told him to get away and that he (Nifong) was full of crap and was a liar. The whole thing had me rollin’ on the floor.
Anyway, I thought you might get a laugh from it, or might want to check it out for yourself. (ABC11TV.com)
Have a great day,
Julia

My take on the elections:
This is the Republicans’ fault. The people gave them the presidency, the Senate, and the House. And they did not take care of the people’s business. We had runaway spending and pork. Security is still an issue. Immigration laws need to be enforced. They did not enact strong enough border controls regarding illegal aliens and the Mexican drug cartel. We don’t have a worker program for legal immigrants. There are still good recommendations from the 9/11 Commission that have not been enacted. The war in Iraq is not going well. Too many scandals. They stuck their nose in the private Terry Schiavo case in FL without having the facts. They gave social security benefits to illegal aliens; hospitalization, education, etc. Did not adopt English as being the language of the land. Federal Government is too big.
Now we need to see what the Dems will do. This is their responsibility — to do a good job or not. Nancy Pelosi of the San Fran area will be speaker of the House, the Judiciary Committee will be headed up by John Conyers of the Detroit area, the Intelligence Committee will be headed up by a Representative who was impeached by Congress for taking bribes.
