ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes confirms he was driving the second car in an alleged race that led to teammate Marcell Dareus crashing his 2012 Jaguar into a tree last week.
Hughes says Hamburg Town police contacted him regarding his role in the accident, which occurred near Ralph Wilson Stadium on Friday. Hughes adds there were no other Bills players involved. He declined to answer other questions because the police are still investigating.
Hughes spoke following practice Wednesday, a day after police announced Dareus had been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and ticketed for several traffic violations, including drag-racing.
Police received complaints of two cars racing, when they came upon the accident involving the defensive tackle’s Jaguar.
